Yale University
Yale University boasts a long list of alumni, faculty, and officers who have been extremely influential in government, education,
business, and non-profit ventures. The school has earned its reputation of contributing to national and world history with a long record of public
service among its alumni and faculty. Yale alumni include five U.S. Presidents—William Taft, Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and
the current President, George W. Bush. Other modern-era government leaders who graduated from Yale include John Kerry, Dick Cheney, George Pataki, and
Hillary Clinton.
About 11,400 students attend Yale, located in the small, historic New England town of New Haven, Connecticut, about two hours north of New York.
The university is comprised of three sections—Yale College, the undergraduate school; the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; and twelve
professional schools. These include schools of architecture, art, drama, engineering, forestry and environmental studies, law, management, medicine,
music, nursing, and the Divinity School. Yale has a strong reputation as an undergraduate school, but it's also a prestigious research university.
Its graduate programs have produced Nobel laureates in economics, physics, chemistry, and medicine. It also has several famous libraries and art
collections
One of the most unusual aspects of Yale's undergraduate program is that it's a residential college, modeled after the Oxford and
Cambridge systems. Twelve residential colleges each house about 450 students, and the school assigns incoming freshmen to one of these colleges.
Deans, masters, faculty, and fellows staff the colleges. Each college has its own building, which includes the residential quarters, as well as
meeting rooms, dining halls, sports areas, and recreational facilities. Each college offers its own seminars, lectures, and social events, creating
an active atmosphere where students with various backgrounds and interests constantly interact. This diversity enriches the students' experiences and
broadens their intellectual and social horizons throughout their undergraduate years.
