Sloan Waitlisting Some Applicants Without Interview

Out-of-State Students Wise Up

The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that disproportionately high out-of-state tuition rates at public universities are driving more and more out-of-state applicants to establish state residency ahead of time, in order to qualify for in-state rates when they matriculate. It will be interesting to see how the schools respond to this growing phenomenon. It's easy to see why administrators faced with budget shortfalls are tempted to turn to out-of-state tuition increases to raise money, but such increases are only going to drive even more out-of-state students to change their state residency.
