Sloan Waitlisting Some Applicants Without Interview
It's come to our attention that MIT's Sloan School of Management has waitlisted some 2006 Round 2 applicants
without inviting them to an interview. This is both a departure from Sloan's past practice and a rather puzzling step,
given Sloan's policy of admitting only applicants who have had an admissions interview.

Out-of-State Students Wise Up
The Chronicle of Higher Education reports that disproportionately high out-of-state tuition rates at public universities are driving
more and more out-of-state applicants to establish state residency ahead of time, in order to qualify for in-state rates when they matriculate. It will be interesting to see how the schools respond to this growing
phenomenon. It's easy to see why administrators faced with budget shortfalls are tempted to turn to out-of-state tuition increases to raise money,
but such increases are only going to drive even more out-of-state students to
change their state residency.
