Sloan Waitlisting Some Applicants Without Interview
It's come to our attention that MIT's Sloan School of Management has waitlisted some 2006 Round 2 applicants without inviting them to an interview. This is both a departure from Sloan's past practice and a rather puzzling step, given Sloan's policy of admitting only applicants who have had an admissions interview.
In a note sent with the waitlist letter to these applicants, Sloan explains that it does not have the resources to interview all of the viable
candidates this year. We assume that the School would make an interview part of the decision process in moving someone off the waitlist, but it's not clear when such
interview invitations would go out. (Regular interview invitations will continue being issued until Sloan's April 3 notification date.)
In practical terms, being on Sloan's waitlist doesn't seem to mean much without an admissions interview. We would strongly recommend that anyone who is in this situation
and who seriously wants to attend Sloan
make a strong pitch for an interview in their response to the waitlist letter.
